This case study aimed to study the nursing care for patients with hip fractures who underwent hip replacement surgery and had collapsed lungs. A case study of an 85-year-old Thai woman who had an accident and fell, resulting in a fracture of the right hip bone in the neck. The data collection instrument was a form that covered the mechanism of injury, symptoms and signs, history of past and present illnesses, history of medications, surgical history, laboratory test results, and other special test results. The data were analyzed to determine nursing diagnoses using Orem's and Gordon's models of health, and to plan nursing actions using the nursing process. This process was then followed by monitoring and evaluating the nursing operations according to the plan.
The study results found that before surgery, the patient received monitoring and surgical preparation. The patient experienced reduced pain after receiving medication and had reduced anxiety about undergoing surgical treatment. After surgery, the patient received care to prevent post-operative risks. It was found that the patient was breathing normally and steadily, without fatigue. The surgical wound on the right hip was not bleeding, but she was having problems with not being able to urinate, so the doctor gave intravenous fluids to help speed up the urination process. The patient can sit up in bed but needs support and cannot stand beside the bed. The patient had a collapsed lung but received physical therapy to exercise the lungs until he was no longer tired. The patient was trained in self-care skills to prevent stiffness. The nurse advises the caregiver on the patient's personal hygiene according to the D-MEDTHOD-P principles, exercise, and rehabilitation before returning home for treatment and making follow-up appointments.
