Nursing care of Gestational diabetes mellitus class A II: A case study

Abstract

This study is a case study of nursing a woman with gestational diabetes. The aim of this
study is to provide pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus receiving professional
standardized and most effective care. This study was conducted on 1 pregnant woman with
gestational diabetes who came to the antenatal care unit, Banmi Hospital, Lopburi province. A 32-
year-old pregnant women received antenatal care on March 15, 2021, gestational age 7 week. The
patient can't remember the last menstrual period. The date of birth was estimated on October 19,
2021. From ultrasound scan, OGTT test showed abnormal results (190 mg/dl, 274 mg/dl, 336
mg/dl, 367 mg/dl). Doctor diagnosed that the patient had G1P0A0L0 with GDM II. The case study
starts from March to October 2021. The pregnant women was found to have problems with
nausea and vomiting throughout the study period. In the first trimester, patient had a risk of
hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, and lack of knowledge about diabetes control and using of
insulin injections. Moreover, patient had a high blood pressure in the third trimester. From this
problem, the problem was funded a solution based on knowledge and theory about diabetes in
pregnant women including of dietary practices, exercise training, insulin injection, coordinating with

nutritionists and pharmacists, and follow up on laboratory results and blood pressure level. After
nursing care, it was found that the pregnant women patient can control their blood sugar levels at
normal levels and safe from high blood pressure.
