This research and development aimed to develop a nursing service system for TB
patients and to study the outcomes of using a nursing service system developed under an
evidence-based and family-centered approach. The sample consisted of 10 new TB patients
in March and 2 0 nurses working in TB clinics and male internal medicine ward 1.The
instruments used include: nursing practice guidelines to promote self-care of TB patients,
the knowledge assessment form on TB patient nursing, the nursing process assessment form
for nurses and the satisfaction questionnaire of nurses and patients.Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics which include frequency, percentage,
mean and standard deviation. The results before and after the development were
compared by t-test.
The results showed that the development of nursing services for TB patients in
promoting self-care was divided into 4 phases; 1) to study the situation of nursing TB patients
before and after the development, 2) to search for empirical evidence in order to develop a
nursing service system for TB patients, 3) to develop a nursing system and to experiment with
targeted patient groups and 4 ) to assess the results of using the nursing system in order to
promote self-care among TB patients.
It was found that the mean after development was at a good level (mean = 27.13, S.D.
= 2.13). The post-development was higher than before and there was a statistically significant
difference at the .01 level (P<.001) and the mean of satisfaction of professional nurses with
the use of the TB nursing system after development was higher and had a statistically
significant difference at the .01 level (P<.001).
The suggestion from the results of the study is the TB nursing care system should be used to
improve the service of patients in TB clinics and applied to use in other relevant departments.
