The objective of this study was to conduct a comparative analysis of nursing care provided to two patients with liver cirrhosis secondary to hepatitis C virus infection in the decompensated stage with complications. This study employed a comparative case study design to examine nursing care for two patients with liver cirrhosis secondary to hepatitis C virus infection in the decompensated stage with complications. The patients were admitted to Kalasin Hospital in 2025. Data were collected from patients’ medical histories, patient interviews, and medical records. Nursing care was provided in accordance with the professional roles and responsibilities of registered nurses, based on the seven major aspects of clinical nursing care. Nursing diagnoses were formulated, and health problems were addressed using the five-step nursing process, from admission through discharge. The findings were applied as a standard framework for nursing care delivery to patients with liver cirrhosis and related complications.
Results: Both patients were diagnosed with hepatitis C virus–related liver cirrhosis. In Case Study 1, the patient had liver cirrhosis secondary to hepatitis C virus infection complicated by anemia, whereas in Case Study 2, the patient had liver cirrhosis secondary to hepatitis C virus infection complicated by ascites. Medical treatment and nursing care were provided using the five-step nursing process. The patients’ clinical conditions progressively improved, and no complications were observed during the course of care.
