Nursing Care for an Elderly Patient Undergoing Total Knee Arthroplasty with Multiple Comorbidities: A Case Study.

Abstract

     This study aims to present the nursing care process for an elderly patient with complex comorbidities during the preoperative preparation for Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA). The case study involves an 80-year-old Thai female from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, presenting with a one-month history of severe left knee pain and difficulty walking. Physical examination revealed a varus deformity of the left knee, and radiographic findings confirmed osteoarthritis. Significant comorbidities included hypertension, coronary artery disease (post-balloon angioplasty), and bilateral blurred vision.

     Results: The patient successfully underwent Left Total Knee Arthroplasty (Lt TKA) on August 6, 2025. The procedure was completed without complications despite the high-risk profile. The patient was discharged on the fourth postoperative day. A one-month follow-up showed that the patient regained the ability to walk normally, remained free of complications, and reported an improved quality of life.
