Development of a Palliative Care Model at Non Sung Hospital, Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

Abstract

          This Quasi Experimental Research and Development (R&D) study aimed to: (1) develop a palliative care model at Non Sung Hospital, Nakhon Ratchasima Province; and (2) evaluate the outcomes of the developed model. Conducted from May 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. The sample comprised 20 primary caregivers of end-stage chronic patients (PPS 50%) at the palliative care clinic, selected through purposive sampling. Research instruments included demographic data records. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations.

          The findings revealed that the newly developed model emphasizes a multidisciplinary team approach (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and home care teams) combined with a 4-step empowerment program, educational manuals, and scheduled tele-nursing follow-ups on days 7 and 14. Evaluation of the 20 caregivers showed that the majority were female (70.0%), daughters of the patients (55.0%), and caring for end-stage cancer patients (60.0%). Overall, caregivers demonstrated a moderate level of total adaptation ( = 107.25, SD = 12.45). Regarding specific dimensions, the interdependence mode achieved the highest average score, placing it at a high level ( = 31.25, SD = 3.10), whereas the physiological adaptation mode received the lowest average score, remaining at a moderate level ( = 22.40, SD = 4.15).
