This study aimed to investigate the nursing care of glaucoma patients with comorbidities and lens opacity undergoing cataract surgery. Nurses play a crucial role in patient care pre-operatively, during, post-operatively, and discharge planning. The study used a case study of two Thai male patients, aged 41 and 67, respectively, admitted to the Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, and Head and Neck Surgery ward at Kalasin Hospital from September 28-30, 2025, and October 28-30, 2025, respectively. They were diagnosed with glaucoma with comorbidities and lens opacity, including epilepsy and hyperlipidemia. Data were collected from medical records, patient and family interviews, physical examination, specialized examinations, and Gordon's health assessment model.
Study Results: The study found that the main problems among patients were conjunctivitis and eye pain due to high intraocular pressure. Patient 1: Visual acuity measurements: Right eye 6/6, PH 20/20; Left eye 6/60, PH 20/60. Intraocular pressure: Right eye 40 mmHg, Left eye 12 mmHg. Retinal imaging showed C:D RE 0.9, right lens NS 3+. Patient 2: Visual acuity measurements: Right eye 20/60, PH 20/70; Left eye 6/18, PH 20/20. Intraocular pressure: Right eye 14 mmHg, Left eye 41 mmHg. Lens opacity was detected. Retinal imaging showed C:D LE 0.9, left lens NS 3+. Assessment was performed using the Gordon's 11 model. Nursing care was provided according to the established nursing plan. Patients were safe, without complications. Nurses provided holistic care throughout the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative periods, including education and discharge planning. This resulted in patient safety, no complications, and the ability to continue self-care at home.
