Development of a Community-based model for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Drug Users in Phai Tharin subdistrict, Lam Plai Mat district, Buriram Province

This action research was aimed to development of a community-based model for the treatment and rehabilitation of drug users in Phai Tharin subdistrict, Lam Plai Mat district, Buriram province. There were 2 groups of samples: 1) Network partner of 30 samples and 2) Village Health Volunteers 120 samples and 3) drug users 37 samples selected according to predefined criteria. The research was conducted between May 2025 - February 2026. Data were collected from questionnaires, a follow-up form and focus group guidelines. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and comparing the mean differences using paired t-test and qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis with a significance level at 0.05.
The results showed that the developed model consisted of 4 key components: 1) Screening and Identification, 2) Treatment and Rehabilitation, 3) Vocational Training and Life Skills Development and 4) Follow-up and Continuing Care. The evaluation results showed that most participants had a high level of knowledge and a moderate level of participation about drugs and drug treatment (=8.38 S.D.=1.66,
=2.16 S.D.=0.11). Moreover, after the implementation of the developed model, both knowledge and participation were significantly higher than pre-development (p-value< 0.001). At the 3 month follow-up, the rate of recurrent substance use was 13.50 percent.
