Nursing Care for a Patient with Hemorrhagic Shock During Surgery for Colon Cancer at the Hepatic and Splenic Flexures: A Case Study.
Keywords:
Patients with hemorrhagic shock, during surgery, cancer of the pancreatic angle of the colon and spleenAbstract
This case study aimed to delineate essential intraoperative nursing care for colorectal cancer patients experiencing hemorrhagic shock, encompassing five core domains: continuous patient assessment, hemodynamic monitoring, fluid and blood product management, interdisciplinary coordination, and complication prevention.
Results: The findings demonstrated that several factors emerged as critical competencies for improving survival rates and minimizing complications: (1) timely and accurate patient assessment, (2) rigorous hemodynamic monitoring, and (3) systematic shock management—incorporating fluid resuscitation, blood component transfusion, and hemorrhage source control. Furthermore, integrating evidence-based nursing practice with effective interdisciplinary team communication was essential for enhancing clinical outcomes.
