Self-awareness and oral health care. Diabetes mellitus patients at Ban Hua Ngua Health Promoting Hospital, Song plueai Sub-district, Namon District, Kalasin Province

Abstract

The Cross-sectional analytic study had of this study were to study the relationship
between self-awareness and oral health care. Diabetes mellitus patients at Ban Hua Ngua
Health Promoting Hospital, Song plueai Sub-district, Namon District, Kalasin Province. The
sanples consisted of 86 person calculated by the sample size formular stratified random
sampling. The data were collected by interview questionnaires. The statistics were use for
data analyzed by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics; presentation with fregency,
percentage, mean, standard deviation and person’s Correlation Coefficient (r) of sig-nificance
at the 0.05 leval.
Results: The study showed that demographic features, most of the subject were
female 69.8% age between 61-70 years old ( = 60, S.D.=9.21, Min.= 42, Max.= 82 ), farmers
52.3% their education were finished from elementary school 86% , diabetes duration average
is 12 years (Min.= 1, Max.= 26), most of the Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS.) between 131-150
mg./dl, 55.82% ( = 140, S.D.=14.18, Min.= 108, Max. = 180 ) Self-awareness was at a high
level ( = 4.14, S.D. = 0.54). Oral health care was good ( = 2.50, SD = 0.37) The
relationship between Self-awareness and oral health care of diabetic patients The Fasting
Blood Sugar (FBS.) level was moderately negative. With self-awareness at statistically significance
(r=0.320, p=0.003), Age was moderately correlated with duration of diabetes at
statistically sig-nificance (r=0.684, p<0.001). Self-awareness There was a statistically significant
level in diabetic patients receiving care services (r = 0.228, p = 0.035)
