Development of self-care behavior change to prevent diabetes of risk group people in the area of Pon Ngam Community health center, Ubon Ratchathani
Abstract
This research and development had the objective to study the development of self-care behavior change to prevent diabetes of risk group people and to implement the result of model development in solving the problems of other groups with similar problems. The research process covered 3 phases as follows. Phase 1 studied the problem on blood sugar level control behavior of the diabetes risk group with research format of survey research and group discussion. Phase 2 was the development of format in solving problems by creating health behavior change program for self-care of the diabetes risk group as follows. 1. specify the problem condition and the necessity 2. objective of program development 3. program component 4. making of program activity details 5. tools used 6. assessment of program format quality developed by qualified people. Phase 3 was the assessment of the format result. The sample group was from simple sampling. They were divided into the test group and comparison group for 40 people each. The research tools consisted of 1. tools which were self-care behavior change program format 2. The tools used in collecting the data were questionnaire. The operation time was 12 weeks. General data were analyzed by descriptive statistics to compare the difference of score means and analyzed by Paired Sample t-test and independent t-test at statistical significance of 0.05.
The research result found that the sample group that joined the program had better result than before the test and the comparison group regarding the belief in the risk of getting diabetes, belief in severity of diabetes, belief in the good result and obstacle of diabetes prevention, behavior practice to prevent diabetes with statistical significance. As for blood sugar level and BMI reduced with statistical significance. The waistline was found to be reduced more than before the test with statistical significance but not different from the comparison group. This meant that self-care behavior change format to prevent diabetes which was developed had efficiency according to the criteria and the result could be extended to other areas in order to prevent new cases of diabetes
