Effect of the self-care behavior modification program for patients with uncontrolled hypertension in the responsible area of Phusing Hospital, Phusing District, Sisaket Province

Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effect of the self-care behavior modification program for patients with uncontrolled hypertension in the responsible area of Phusing Hospital, Phusing District, Sisaket Province. There was a total of 128 samples which were divided into two groups. The experimental group consisted of 64 people, and the control group consisted of 64 people. The experimental group was patients with uncontrolled hypertension in the responsible area of Phusing Hospital, Phusing District, Sisaket Province, and the control group was patients with uncontrolled hypertension in the responsible area of Wanghin Hospital, Wanghin District, Sisaket Province. The experimental group received the program for 12 weeks, and the control group did not receive the program. The data were collected from questionnaires twice, before and after experiments during May 1, 2022, and November 30, 2022, and were analyzed by descriptive statistics and presented in percentages, mean, standard deviations, median and 25th and 75th percentile. Comparing differences in average scores of variables within group using paired t-test statistic and between groups using Independent t-test statistic with a statistical significance level of 5%. The results showed the outcomes of comparing differences in scores on Mean difference in hypertension knowledge score, perceived risk of hypertension, perceived severity of hypertension, perceived benefit in preventing hypertension. High, perceived barriers to prevent hypertension, social support, and antihypertensive behaviors of the experimental group were significantly higher than the comparison group at the 0.05 level. In addition, the developed process can change the self-care behavior of uncontrolled hypertension patients in the area of responsibility of Phusing Hospital, Phusing District, Sisaket Province, with the results as set objectives.
