Effect of creating participation and social support to change the waste management behavior of the people in the Chonpratan community, Warin Chamrab District, Ubon Ratchathani Province

Abstract

The objective of the quasi-experimental study aimed to investigate Effect of creating participation and social support to change the waste management behavior of the people in the Chonpratan community, Warin Chamrab District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. There were totally 64 samples which were divided into 2 groups, experimental group consisted of 32 people and control group consisted of 32 people: the experimental group were people in Chonpratan Community, Warin Chamrab District, Ubon Ratchathani Province and the control group were people in Tontae Community, Warin Chamrab District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. The experimental group received the program during 12 weeks, and the control group did not receive the program. Data were collected from questionnaires twice before and after experiments during July 1, 2022 and September 30, 2022, and were analyzed by descriptive statistics and presented in percentages, mean, standard deviations, medians, percentile 25th and percentile 75th. Comparing differences in average scores of variables of each group relied on the paired t-test and comparing differences in averages scores of variables between groups was based on the independent t-test determined with a statistical significance level at 5%. The results showed that, the results of comparing differences in scores on waste management knowledge, waste management attitudes, participation in waste management knowledge, waste management attitude, waste management participation, social support in waste management, waste management intention, and waste management behaviors in the experimental group were higher than before the experiment and then those in the control group with a statistical significant level at 0.05. The results show that the program created can be used to manage the waste of people in the irrigation community, Warin Chamrab District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, with the results according to the set objectives.
