Nursing care of end-stage renal disease patients receiving palliative care: a case study

Abstract

This study aimed to study the nursing care of end-stage renal disease patients receiving palliative care.

          Case study: A case study of a 48-year-old Thai man who refused to smoke and drink alcohol. He was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease for about 3 years. He was treated by peritoneal dialysis. The patient was admitted to the outpatient department on 13 June 2022 with severe abdominal pain for 3 hours before going to the hospital. Nursing process in patient care used in the pre-medical examination, during the medical examination, and after the medical examination for a quick medical examination and appropriate treatment. The nurses assessed, screened, took history and physical examination of the patient. Patient was tired, could not lie down and had tissue hypoxia. The doctor diagnosed that the patient had volume overload with anemia. After medical examination, the doctor decided that the patient needs to be admitted to the hospital in the internal medicine ward. The medical team coordinated for patient admission and followed up the patient during admission. The patient is safe without complications. The patient was discharged, including a hospital admission of 10 days. The doctor made a follow-up appointment at the outpatient room and the patient was received continuation of palliative care
