Anesthetic Nursing to Prevent Complications in Patients Undergoing General Anesthesia for Pancreatic Head Cancer Surgery with Distal Bile Duct Resection via Whipple’s Operation

This case study aimed to examine anesthetic nursing care for the prevention of complications in a patient undergoing general anesthesia for pancreatic head cancer with distal bile duct involvement requiring Whipple's procedure. The study focused on a 63-year-old Thai widowed female patient admitted to Ang Thong Hospital presenting with intermittent abdominal pain and jaundice. Following diagnosis of pancreatic head cancer with distal bile duct obstruction, the treatment plan involved surgical intervention via Whipple's operation. During preoperative assessment at the female surgical ward.
Result: the anesthetist nurse identified the patient's anxiety regarding her condition, fear of anesthesia, and apprehension about the surgery. The nurse anesthetist provided comprehensive education covering pre-anesthetic preparation, intraoperative care, and postoperative recovery. Continuous monitoring and nursing care were provided in the ward, along with discharge planning that included patient education and guidance about available support resources following hospital discharge.
