Abstract

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a common condition among older adults, characterized by a decline in cognitive functions—such as thinking, memory, and reasoning—beyond what is normally expected for their age. Although it does not affect daily living or social interactions, it can serve as a warning sign for the future onset of dementia. This article aims to propose approaches for slowing cognitive decline and stimulating cognitive functions in older adults through cognitive engagement activities utilizing gamification mechanisms. These activities involve integrating game elements into non-game contexts to design group activities for older adults with MCI. Such group activities can be effectively implemented in both older adults’ homes and healthcare settings. Applying gamification mechanisms helps increase older adults’ participation in activities, while fostering motivation and consistent engagement. Consequently, the brain is continuously stimulated, which helps slow down cognitive decline.
