Abstract
This quasi-experiment with a two-group design (experimental and control) was measured at baseline, immediately after the program completion, and three months after the program. The objective was to study the effectiveness of a program that promotes self-care behaviors in reducing the risk of complications in patients with uncontrolled hypertension in Nam Khum Subdistrict, Si Nakhon District, Sukhothai Province. The sample group was obtained through simple random sampling from the registry of patients with uncontrolled hypertension. The experimental group consisted of 40 individuals who received services at Nam Khum Sub-district Health Promotion Hospital, and the control group consisted of 40 individuals from Nong Bua Sub-district Health Promotion Hospital, Si Nakhon District, Sukhothai Province. The research instrument was a developed and improved interview questionnaire. The research instrument was a developed and improved interview questionnaire. Data on the program's effectiveness were analyzed using a General Linear Model Repeated Measures ANOVA, which compared mean scores on self-care awareness, behavior, and blood pressure before, immediately after, and 3 months after the program.
The study found that the effectiveness of a program promoting self-care behaviors in reducing the risk of complications in patients with uncontrolled hypertension in Nam Khum Subdistrict, Si Nakhon District, Sukhothai Province, was significantly improved within and between groups at different measurements and evaluation times. The program had a statistically significant effect on all aspects of perceived behavior, overall self-care behavior, and blood pressure (p < 0.05).
The result suggested that primary caregivers of hypertensive patients can apply the hypertension health promotion program in clinical and community care, emphasizing individualized health promotion processes, patient involvement in setting goals and planning behavioral reviews, and joint monitoring and evaluation. This can lead to behavioral changes and a reduction in complications arising from uncontrolled blood pressure.
