ABSTRACT
This quasi-experimental study with a two-group pretest-posttest design aimed to compare the mean knowledge scores regarding self-care related to cesarean section and the scores on the ability to perform recovery activities after cesarean section before and after the intervention in the experimental group, and to compare these scores between the experimental and control groups after the intervention. The sample consisted of 60 pregnant women diagnosed by physicians as requiring cesarean section at Sawankhalok Hospital, Sukhothai Province. Participants were purposively selected and divided into an experimental group and a control group of 30 participants each. The research instruments included a pre- and post-operative preparation program for pregnant women that integrated King's Theory of Goal Attainment with the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) concept, along with questionnaires for data collection. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test, and independent t-test.
Results showed that after receiving the program, the experimental group's mean knowledge score regarding self-care increased significantly from 26.00±3.00 to 38.00±1.50 points, and the score on the ability to perform recovery activities after cesarean section increased significantly from 146.00±14.00 to 187.00±12.00 points (p<.001). In contrast, neither variable showed a statistically significant difference in the control group (p=.319 and p=.168, respectively). After the intervention, the experimental group had significantly higher knowledge scores and recovery activity ability scores than the control group (p<.001). In conclusion, the pre- and post-operative preparation program integrating King's Theory of Goal Attainment with the ERAS concept effectively increased self-care knowledge and enhanced the ability to perform recovery activities after cesarean section.
