Effects of a combined exercise program on physical fitness of overweight nursing students, Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Udonthani

This study employed a quasi-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest approach.This study aimed to study effect of a combined exercise program on the physical fitness of overweight nursing students. The sample consisted of 25-first-year nursing students of overweight, selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included a Physical Activity Readiness Questionaire : PAR-Q); body composition included weight, height, body mass index,aist to hip circumference, and fat percentage; physical fitnessand personal information questionnaire. The exercise program which consist of aerobic exercise and brisk walking for a period of 4 weeks,
5 days a week, 50 minutes per day. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test.
The research results found that: The experimental group demonstrated a statistically significant improve in physical fitness after participating in the program (p<.001) while body weight, body mass index, fat percentage, waist-to-hip circumference, muscle mass had not improved (p>.05).
The mixed exercise program successfully improved their physical fitness.
