HEALTH PROMOTION BEHAVIORS OF THE ELDERLY IN PONG NAM RON SUBDISTRICT, KHLONG LAN DISTRICT, KAMPHAENG PHET PROVINCE

Abstract

Introduction: Health promotion behaviors are important in health care for the elderly which is a factor for helping the elderly to be healthy, have longevity, and good quality of life.


  Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate health promotion behaviors of the elderly in Pong Nam Ron Subdistrict, Khlong Lan District, Kamphaeng Phet Province.


     Method: The sample group was elderly people aged more than 60 years who lived in Pong Nam Ron Subdistrict, Khlong Lan District, Kamphaeng Phet Province. The sample size was 350 people from Taro Yamane, accidental sampling randomly drawn from 10 villages (35 people per village). This research was survey research and collected data by using questionnaires validated for content validity (IOC=0.97) and reliability (r=0.86). Data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, and standard deviation.


     Result: The result showed that health promotion behaviors of the elderly in Pong Nam Ron Sub-district, Khlong Lan District, Kamphaeng Phet Province were at a moderate level (2.92  ± 1.12). Considering each aspect, it was found that the elderly had good health promotion behaviors, namely nutrition (3.37 ± 0.84), spiritual development (3.24 ± 0.99), and responsibility for health (3.23 ± 0.98). The aspects at the medium level were exercise (2.99 ± 1.05), relationship with other people (2.93 ± 1.05), and stress management (2.96 ± 1.10). The health promotion behavior in health promotion tourism was at a low level (1.75 ± 0.99).


     Conclusion: Elderly in Pong Nam Ron Sub-district should be encouraged to promote health-promoting behavior in terms of health promotion tourism for improve their health promotion behaviors.
