BASKETBALL TRAINING COMPLEX PROGRAM FOR ENHANCING SKILLS AND PHYSICAL FITNESS IN MALE YOUT
Main Article Content
Abstract
The development of sport-specific skills and physical fitness is essential for enhancing performance in youth basketball players. However, conventional basketball training programs often emphasize either technical skills or physical fitness alone, resulting in limited empirical evidence regarding the effectiveness of integrated training approaches. Therefore, this experimental study aimed to compare basketball skills and physical fitness within and between an experimental group and a control group before and after an eight-week integrated basketball training program. Thirty-six male youth basketball players were assigned to either an experimental group (n = 18) or a control group (n = 18). The experimental group participated in an integrated basketball training program that combined dribbling, passing, and shooting skills with physical fitness training, whereas the control group followed a traditional basketball training program. Training was conducted three days per week for eight weeks. Research instruments included basketball skill tests (dribbling, passing, and shooting) and physical fitness tests (muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance, agility, and muscular power). Data were analyzed using means and standard deviations. Paired samples t-tests were applied to examine within-group differences, and independent samples t-tests were used to compare post-training differences between groups, with the significance level set at .05. The results indicated that after the eight-week training period, the experimental group showed significant improvements in all basketball skills and physical fitness variables (p < .05), with shooting performance demonstrating the most pronounced improvement. Post-training comparisons revealed that the experimental group achieved significantly higher shooting scores than the control group (p = .008), while dribbling and passing skills showed positive improvement trends. In contrast, the control group demonstrated superior agility performance. In conclusion, the integrated basketball training program was effective in enhancing basketball skills, particularly shooting performance, while simultaneously improving physical fitness in male youth basketball players over an eight-week period.
