EFFECTS OF A RHYTHMIC LADDER-BASED EXERCISE ON BODY COMPOSITION IN OVERWEIGHT FEMALE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine and compare the effects of rhythmic ladder-based exercise on body composition in overweight female university students. The participants consisted of 32 overweight female students enrolled in the course GEPH2104 Physical Fitness Promotion for Health at Chandrakasem Rajabhat University during the first semester of the 2025 academic year. Participants were selected using purposive sampling, matched based on body fat percentage, and then randomly assigned into two equal groups (n = 16): an experimental group and a control group. The research instruments included a rhythmic ladder-based exercise program and a body composition analyzer. The experimental group performed rhythmic ladder-based exercises at a cadence of 100–120 beats per minute with moderate intensity (RPE 12–14) for 75 minutes per session, three days per week, over an 8-week period, while the control group maintained their usual daily activities. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, paired sample t-tests, and independent sample t-tests. The results revealed that after 8 weeks of training, the experimental group showed a significant reduction in body fat percentage and a significant increase in skeletal muscle mass compared to pre-training values (p < .05). In contrast, the control group demonstrated a significant increase in body fat percentage. Between-group comparisons after the intervention indicated that the experimental group had significantly lower body fat percentage and higher skeletal muscle mass than the control group (p < .05). In conclusion, rhythmic ladder-based exercise is an effective form of physical activity for improving body composition by reducing body fat and increasing skeletal muscle mass among overweight female university students. This exercise modality may serve as a practical alternative for promoting health and managing overweight conditions in this population
