Abstract

This study aimed to 1) examine the effects of a combined Speed, Agility, and Plyometric Training (SAP) program on lower-limb physical performance in team sport athletes, 2) compare lower-limb performance before and after a 6-week training period, and 3) compare the differences in performance changes among different team sports. The study employed a one-group pretest–posttest experimental design without a control group. The participants consisted of 45 male university athletes, including basketball, futsal, and volleyball players (15 athletes per sport), selected through purposive sampling. The SAP training program consisted of speed, agility, and plyometric exercises performed three times per week for six weeks. Lower-limb performance assessments included speed, agility, muscular strength, and explosive power. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (One-Way ANOVA), and effect size (Cohen’s d) with a significance level set at .05. The results revealed that after the 6-week training program, participants demonstrated significant improvements in all measured variables  (p < .05). The 50-meter sprint time decreased from 7.18 ± 0.42 s to 6.74 ± 0.36 s, agility performance improved from 16.65 ± 1.05 s to 15.18 ± 0.82 s, lower-limb muscular strength increased from 118.5 ± 12.4 kg to 138.2 ± 11.8 kg, and vertical jump performance improved from 46.9 ± 5.2 cm to 53.1 ± 4.5 cm. The effect sizes were classified as large (d = 1.13–1.63). In addition, no significant differences were found in the magnitude of performance improvements among the different sports (p > .05). In conclusion, the SAP training program effectively improves lower-limb performance, particularly muscular strength, explosive power, and change-of-direction ability in university-level team sport athletes. The findings suggest that SAP training can be practically applied across various team sports to enhance athletic performance
