EFFECTS OF A RESISTANCE TRAINING PROGRAM ON HEALTH-RELATED PHYSICAL FITNESS AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN KANCHANABURI RAJABHAT UNIVERSITY
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to 1) examine the effects of a resistance training program on health-related physical fitness among students at Kanchanaburi Rajabhat University, 2) compare health-related physical fitness between male and female students, and 3) investigate the interaction between the resistance training program and sex on health-related physical fitness. The study employed a quasi-experimental design using a 2 × 2 factorial design. The participants consisted of 40 university students aged 18–25 years who were selected through purposive sampling and divided into four groups: experimental male, experimental female, control male, and control female. The experimental groups participated in a resistance training program three times per week for 8 weeks. Health-related physical fitness was assessed using standardized tests including body mass index (BMI), flexibility (Sit and Reach Test), muscular strength and muscular endurance (60-second Chair Stand Test), and cardiorespiratory endurance (3-Minute Step Test). Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results revealed that the resistance training program significantly enhanced flexibility, muscular strength and muscular endurance, and cardiorespiratory endurance (p < .05). However, no significant change was found in body mass index. In addition, no significant difference in physical fitness was found between male and female students, and no interaction effect between the resistance training program and sex was observed. In conclusion, the resistance training program effectively enhanced health-related physical fitness among university students and could be applied as a practical model for physical fitness promotion in university settings
