Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the priority needs for developing the Games and Recreational Camp Activities course. which incorporates brainstorming techniques to enhance the capabilities of physical education student teachers in designing and organizing classroom ice-breaking activities. Although the minimum required sample size was set at 126, the accessibility and efficiency of the online data collection platform resulted in a final sample of 184 participants. The participants were selected through multi-stage sampling, involving the random selection of one university from each of the six geographical regions. Data were collected using a dual-response questionnaire, which was validated for content validity (IOC) by three experts and demonstrated a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.76, indicating acceptable internal consistency. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and the Priority Needs Index (Priority Needs Index: PNI). The results reveal significant gaps between current conditions and expectations across all dimensions. In terms of objectives, the highest priority was the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical design (PNI = 2.76). Regarding content, the most urgent need involved specific subject matter on classroom ice-breaking activities (PNI = 5.74). The learning experience dimension showed the highest overall need for development, with practical training in conducting ice-breaking activities emerging as the top priority (PNI = 6.97). Finally, for evaluation, the primary need was the implementation of skill-based testing for organizing games and recreational activities (PNI = 5.61). These findings suggest that physical education teacher curricula should be restructured to bridge these gaps. Specifically, the Games and Recreational Camp Activities course. This involves reducing theoretical lectures and substantially increasing practical skill-based training hours to align with the critical needs identified in this study
