Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the Conventional Hamstring-to-Quadriceps ratio (H:Q ratio) and Dynamic Control Ratio (DCR) in collegiate football players to provide information for knee muscle performance assessment and injury risk screening. Twenty male collegiate football players (n = 20) aged 18–22 years were recruited using purposive sampling. Muscle performance of the dominant leg was assessed using an isokinetic dynamometer under concentric and eccentric contraction modes at various angular velocities. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and the level of statistical significance was set at .05. Results: The Conventional H:Q ratio at an angular velocity of 120°/s (mean = 0.95 ± 0.27) was moderately and positively correlated with the Dynamic Control Ratio      (mean = 1.74 ± 0.88) at a statistically significant level (r = .55, p < .05), whereas the relationship at 60°/s (mean = 0.83 ± 0.28) was low, negative, and not statistically significant (r = -.06, p > .05). In addition, both the Conventional H:Q ratio and Dynamic Control Ratio tended to increase as angular velocity increased, while the peak torque values of the Quadriceps and Hamstrings tended to decrease with increasing angular velocity. Conclusion: The Conventional H:Q ratio and Dynamic Control Ratio reflect different dimensions of knee muscle function, particularly the eccentric function of the Hamstrings. Therefore, combined assessment of both ratios may enhance injury risk screening perspectives and support appropriate injury prevention strategies in collegiate football players
