Development of Mental Health Promotion Model for the Elderly with Community Participation, Sakaeprong Sub-district Mueang Buriram District, Buriram Province

This action research aimed to study the development of mental health promotion model for the elderly with community participation. The study applied the PAOR action research framework. The samples consisted of 3 groups: 1) 30 samples from network participants selected by purposive sampling 2) 156 samples from village health volunteers and 3) 338 samples from elderly selected by stratified random sampling. Quantitative data was collected by the questionnaire, Thai geriatric mental health assessment-15 (T-GMHA-15) and focus group discussion guidelines. Data was collected between March to July 2026. Data analysis was performed by descriptive and comparative analysis was performed by paired t-test with a significance level of 0.05. Qualitative data using content analysis.
The research findings the showed the developed model comprised 6 components, namely the “SPMIND Model” : 1) Screening & Surveillance 2) Participation & Partnership 3) Mental Health Promotion 4) Interaction & Inner Support 5) Network Care & Referral and 6) Development, Evaluation & Sustainability. After implementation of the model, the VHVs’s knowledge and participation level in caring for the mental health of elderly significantly increased (p-value<0.001). And the mental health scores of elderly showed a statistically significant improvement, as compared to before intervention (p-value<0.001).
