The Effectiveness of the Nursing Program by using the Self-Management Support System and Empowerment Concept in Hypertensive Urgency in the Inpatient Department Doi Lo Hospital Chiangmai Province.

This research aimed to study the effectiveness of the nursing program by using the self-management support system and empowerment concept in hypertensive urgency in the Inpatient department Doi Lo hospital Chiang Mai Province. The objectives were: 1) to study the effectiveness of the nursing program integrating self-management support systems and empowerment in patients with a history of hypertensive emergencies, and 2) to compare the self-management and care capabilities for preventing hypertensive emergencies among hypertensive patients admitted to the inpatient ward of Doi Lo Hospital, Chiang Mai Province. The sample consisted of 30 hypertensive patients who presented with hypertensive emergencies in the inpatient ward of Doi Lo Hospital. Data were collected using questionnaires and interviews. Descriptive statistics, paired T-tests, and content analysis were used, with a significance level of 0.05.
The study results showed that the majority of the sample were female, aged 51-70 years, married, with a primary school education, engaged in agriculture, and had an average monthly income of 5,001–10,000 baht. They had health insurance coverage and were primarily assisted at home by spouses and children/grandchildren. Those who assisted and transported them to the hospital for appointments or emergencies were mostly children/grandchildren and relatives. The most common symptom presented before treatment was shortness of breath. Health behaviors of hypertensive patients included diet and medication use, activity and stress management, and follow-up and problem-solving. After the program, hypertensive patients showed a significant improvement in their health behaviors. Perceived self-empowerment of hypertensive patients after the program was at the highest level. Comparing the competence in managing and caring for oneself to prevent hypertensive emergencies, the average score increased to (==4.24, SD.0.34) and differed significantly (t = -8.4904, p <.001).
