Development of a Participatory Network Model for Disease Surveillance, Control, and Prevention at Khok Udom Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital, Fao Rai District, Nong Khai Province

Abstract

          This research aimed to 1) study the situation of network participation in disease surveillance, control, and prevention; 2) develop a participatory network model for disease surveillance, control, and prevention; and 3) evaluate the effectiveness of the developed participatory model in disease surveillance, control, and prevention at Ban Khok Udom Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital, Fao Rai District, Nong Khai Province. The study was conducted from November 2023 to September 2024, employing an action research design. The sample, selected through purposive sampling, consisted of 100 participants, including village health volunteers (73%), community leaders (16%), local government representatives (5%), and health education teachers (6%). Data were collected using questionnaires and interview forms. Data analysis employed descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, and content analysis.

          The results revealed that network participation before development ranged from moderate to low (mean = 2.69, S.D. = 1.02). The development process led to the creation of the "6S Model for Integrated Community Disease Surveillance and Control," which includes: 1) Situation Command Center, 2) Screening and Monitoring, 3) Strategic Planning and Resource Management, 4) Sanitary Education and Public Relations, 5) Sanitation and Infection Control, and 6) Social Well-being and Mental Health Support. The evaluation showed that after implementing the model, the sample group's average knowledge scores increased from 63.60 (S.D. = 17.00) to 80.12 (S.D. = 12.66) points (p < 0.001); opinions on disease reporting increased from 2.06 (S.D. = 0.57) to 2.52 (S.D. = 0.66) points (p < 0.001); and participation scores increased from 2.69 (S.D. = 1.02) to 3.46 (S.D. = 1.01) points (p < 0.001).
