Development of EASY YCPH ED Triage for Professional Nurses in Emergency Department, Yaha Crowns Prince Hospital, Thailand

Abstract

The study on the development of a patient triage tool (Easy YCPH ED Triage) was done among professional nurses in the emergency department unit at Yaha Crowns Prince Hospital. The purpose is to study the effectiveness of patient triage satisfaction with the use of patient triage guidelines. This study is quasi-experimental research to study the effectiveness of using patient triage guidelines by professional nurses according to the “MOPH ED Triage” criteria. The sample group consisted of 11 professional nurses who received training using the Easy YCPH ED Triage patient guidelines developed and implemented by the researchers. The information was collected and analyzed from the medical records of patients admitted to the emergency department between 1 October 2022 and 30 October 2023, before and after implementing the guidelines. Seven hundred and fifty patients were recruited to each group. Research tool includes questionnaires, general information, and satisfaction assessment forms Emergency severity index and patient exclusion criteria data were analyzed using descriptive statistics using mean and percentage methods. The comparative data before and after the experiment were analyzed by using the statistics of Paired Samples T- Test and Chi-square Test. The result found that before using Easy YCPH ED Triage, the mean was 20.09 and after using the average 61.81. Incorrect triage before using Easy YCPH ED Triage, the mean was 48.09 and after using Easy YCPH ED Triage, the mean was 6.36. Under triage before using the mean was 35.27 and after using the mean was 4.54. Over triage before using the mean was 12.82 and after using the mean was 1.63. The conclusion of the study is that the development of the Easy YCPH ED Triage tool affects the efficiency of professional nurses patient triage to be more accurate and patient safety.
