Development of a Pre-hospital Care Emergency Medical Operations Process of Nonthaburi Province

Abstract

This research and development aimed to study the current situation and problems in the implementation of prehospital emergency medical service systems of Nonthaburi Province, Thailand, as well as to develop and implement the guidelines on the systems. The study samples were 214 patients receiving services from the emergency medical system of public hospitals in the province. The tools used for data collection were: (1) a questionnaire on general information of service users, (2) records form for operational information, and (3) service user satisfaction assessment form. The quantitative data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, including percentage, mean, standard deviation; and the qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis. The results of the study revealed a guideline for the development of the pre-hospital emergency medical service system operation which was separated into 3 phases: (1) the preparation phase analyzing the situation and problems of pre-hospital emergency medical services, (2) development phase in accordance with the components of the pre-hospital emergency medical service system, and (3) the results obtained from the implementation of the guideline. There were changes in 3 aspects: (1) the patient were treated properly and appropriately by the operation team, with high satisfaction; (2) the operation team and system emergency medical system had good understanding and properly followed the guidelines for taking care of emergency patients, and (3) there was collaboration from other relevant government and private agencies such as the Provincial Administration Organization and the Nonthaburi City Municipality. From the results of the study it is recommended that in order to speed-up emergency care, a public relations plan should be prepared and efforts be made to educate the public about the notification and first aid calls for help through the phone number 1669 accurately, and clearly, covering all districts of the province.
