Predictive Factors for Passing the First Round of Nursing and Midwifery Registration Exams by Nursing Students of Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Surin

Abstract

This descriptive study aimed to examine knowledge examination results and identify predictors of first-attempt success in the nursing and midwifery professional licensing examination among 79 nursing students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Surin, who passed all eight subjects on their first attempt. To account for a 10% potential loss to follow-up, the total sample size was increased to 89 participants. Data were collected using a five-part questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis.

The findings revealed that GPA, students’ self-preparation for the examination, support from the college, assistance from instructors, and the teaching and learning management process jointly predicted first-attempt success in the nursing and midwifery professional licensing examination among nursing students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Surin, accounting for 15.8% of the variance (R² =.158, p-value < .001) 

These findings can be used to develop an instructor-support model for individual nursing courses, enabling students to acquire an appropriate understanding of nursing sciences. This would contribute to preparing graduates to become competent and successfully pass the examination for registration and licensure as nursing and midwifery professionals.
