Risk Factors Associated with Re-intubation within 24 hours after General Anesthesia at Vachira Phuket Hospital

Abstract

          Intubation within 24 hours is a major complication of the anesthesia service that requires continuous surveillance, monitoring, analysis, and causal analysis of relevant factors. This study was a retrospective data collection with the purpose of finding out the risk factors associated with repeated intubation within 24 hours in Vachira Phuket Hospital. The sample consisted of 6,462 patients who underwent surgery and general anesthesia, divided into male and female, 42.63% and 57.37% respectively. Data were collected from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019 from anesthesia records of patients undergoing surgery in Vachira Phuket Hospital. The inclusion criteria were patients requiring tracheal intubation and tube removal after anesthesia. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, distribution of frequencies, average and percentage. Correlations and risk factors were analyzed using a multivariate logistic regression model, reporting a crude odds ratio and 95% confidence intervals. The results of the study found that the risk factor associated with repeated intubation within 24 hours was ASA classification 3-4 with P-value=0.028.
