Abstract

This action research employed purposive sampling. The objectives were to examine the effectiveness of a pressure ulcer prevention program among critically ill patients admitted to Ranong Hospital and to assess the satisfaction of professional nurses and patients’ relatives with the use of the program. The study was conducted from December 2024 to February 2025. The sample consisted of 30 critically ill female patients who were receiving high-flow oxygen therapy or mechanical ventilation while admitted to the female medical ward at Ranong Hospital. The research instruments for professional nurses included a general information questionnaire, a satisfaction questionnaire regarding the pressure ulcer prevention model, and a pressure ulcer prevention assessment form. The instruments for patients’ relatives included a general information questionnaire and a satisfaction questionnaire regarding the pressure ulcer prevention model. The instruments were validated for content validity by experts. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentage, mean, and standard deviation, as well as inferential statistics.

The results revealed that professional nurses’ satisfaction with the pressure ulcer prevention model was at a high level (M = 4.78). The Braden Scale was assessed upon admission for all patients, and pressure ulcer risk assessment based on the Braden Scale was performed in 100% of the patients. In addition, the overall satisfaction of patients’ relatives with the pressure ulcer prevention model was at a moderate level (M = 2.90). The recommendation from this study is that the pressure ulcer prevention practice guideline for critically ill patients should be continuously implemented in the female medical ward at Ranong Hospital. Furthermore, professional nurses should be encouraged to receive additional training in pressure ulcer care.
