The Effects of a Model of Competency Development Among Emergency Patients Care in the Prehospital Phase of Emergency Medical Technician and Village Health Volunteers in the Sriboonruang District.

This action research aims to study the effects of a model of competency development among emergency patient care in the prehospital phase of emergency medical technicians and village health volunteers in the Sriboonruang District. The study utilizes the PAOR framework by Kemmis S and McTaggart. The samples totaled 66; the participants were purposively sampled, including 33 emergency medical technicians and 33 village health volunteers. The data were collected from October 2024 to March 2025, divided into four phases: (1) planning, (2) action, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. The data collection instruments were the general data recording form and the knowledge and skill test form. All of the instruments were validated by 3 experts; content validity was 1. Conducted by knowledge development workshops and EMS rally activities to develop competencies. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-test statistics. The results showed that the average knowledge score of emergency medical technicians and village health volunteers after the program was statistically significantly higher than before the program (p<0.05 and p<0.00, respectively); the average skill score of emergency medical technicians after the program was highest for trauma patient care (mean=8.2, SD=0.9), and for village health volunteers, it was vital signs assessment and medication administration among patients with emergency conditions (mean=7.8, SD=1.1). It was recommended that the effects of a model of competency development among emergency patient care in the prehospital phase of emergency medical technician and village health volunteers should be expanded to districts and provinces and other areas.
