Abstract
This study was a quasi-experimental research with the objective of comparing the differences in stroke prevention behaviors and blood pressure levels in patients with hypertension. The sample group was obtained by purposive selection according to the specified criteria, totaling 30 people. The experimental group received the stroke prevention program according to the concept of motivation theory for prevention. It consists of activities to create awareness of risk opportunities. The instrument used for data collection was a blood pressure record and a behavior questionnaire for stroke prevention. The total study period took 12 weeks. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistic; frequency, mean, standard deviation, and paired – test.
The results revealed that after trial the sample group had higher the mean score of the stroke prevention behavior higher and the mean score of blood pressure less than before participating significantly at 0.5 level. As a result of using the stroke prevention program based on the protection motivation theory. It can be help hypertension patient to control their blood pressure at normal level and have practical skills by means of promoting suitable behaviors that can greater help stroke prevention.
