A study of shift transfers in nursing for accident and emergency patients, Pai Hospital, Mae Hong Son Province

Abstract
The purpose of this descriptive research was to investigate nursing shift transfers for accident and emergency patients at Pai Hospital. The sample group comprised 12 professional nurses working in this department. Data were collected using a tool created by the researcher between August 2023 and November 2023 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, presenting frequencies, percentages, and a summary of issues. The results of the research revealed the following: 1) compliance with the studied guidelines for handover of nursing shifts: After improving the quality of nursing shift transfers, nurses performing duties as supervisors in nursing for accident and emergency patients at Pai Hospital demonstrated correct and complete performance, exceeding 82 percent 2) incidents resulting from nursing shift transfers: Following the improvement in the quality of nursing shift transfers, there were no reports of incidents resulting from nursing shift handovers in the accident and emergency nursing work at Pai Hospital, and 3) overall satisfaction of professional nurses with the quality development of nursing shift handover: After the quality development, professional nurses in the accident and emergency department at Pai Hospital expressed the highest level of satisfaction in nursing shift delivery, reaching 85 percent. However, problems and obstacles were identified. It was found that the shift leader nurse who dispatched shifts lacked patient information and was unprepared to deliver shifts according to the schedule.
