Abstract

This interview presents the management and development approach of the National Institute of Nuclear Technology (Public Organization) or NINT, led by Associate Professor Dr. Thawatchai Onchan, which focuses on using nuclear technology to support the public health and medical sectors, including adapting to the COVID-19 situation through the use of digital technology and the use of radiation to develop medical devices, such as medical gloves, diplomas, and herbs.

The institute has a strategy for developing medical nuclear technology, focusing on the production of radiopharmaceuticals for use in cancer diagnosis and treatment, reducing import dependence, and supporting the country's health industry. It also operates the Cyclotron Center project, which is expected to produce various radiopharmaceuticals such as tellurium (Tl), copper (Cu), gallium (Ga), and zirconium (Zr), to help lower the cost of cancer treatment.

The institute also expands the role of nuclear technology in food safety by irradiating to eliminate microorganisms, extending shelf life, and preserving the nutritional value of local foods, which contributes to improving public health.

These operations demonstrate the important role of nuclear technology in supporting the country's public health system and economy. Including Thailand's potential to become a leader in nuclear technology in ASEAN
