Abstract

Background: Dementia in the elderly is a major public health problem, especially in the three southern border provinces where culture and religion are complex. Providing knowledge and promoting dementia prevention in the community through village health volunteers (VHVs) is an important approach. An Android learning application was developed as a tool to encourage VHVs to access information and learn about caring for the elderly through the spiritual dimension of the Muslim way.

Research objectives: To develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a learning application for public health volunteers in the three southern border provinces to prevent dementia in the elderly using the spiritual dimension of the Muslim way.

Research methodology: This research used the ADDIE Model to develop the application, which was divided into 5 steps: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The sample group was VHVs in the three southern border provinces. They were tested before and after learning, and the quality of the application was assessed by content, technology, and measurement experts.

Results: Quality assessment of the application by experts The quality was found to be at a very good level (average 4.79). The efficiency of the application was higher than the standard (80.78/95.11, higher than the criteria of 80/80). The academic achievement scores of VHWs after using the application were significantly higher than before learning at a statistical level of 0.05. VHWs' satisfaction with the application was at a very good level (average 4.35).

Conclusion: The developed application can increase the potential of VHWs in caring for the elderly and preventing dementia effectively. In addition, the application is convenient to use, easy to access, and can be used as a good learning medium in the community.
