Abstract

Introduction:  The aging society phenomenon, oral health problems among the elderly have become increasingly significant, directly impacting their quality of life. Concurrently, the elderly's growing access to social media exposes them to the risk of health misinformation. This study, therefore, developed an animation innovation to serve as a reliable and comprehensible health communication tool

Objective: To investigate oral health problems among the elderly, to develop the creation process of an animation innovation based on the “7-Color Ping-Pong” concept (a criterion for classifying oral health problems into 7 levels), and to evaluate the target audience's satisfaction with the developed innovation.

Methodology: A qualitative research focusing on development and evaluation processes was employed. The sample consisted of 10 elderly individuals aged 60-75 with oral health problems in Chonburi province, selected through purposive sampling. Digital tools, including Animaker, Canva, and Capcut, were used for the innovation development. Evaluation was conducted using a satisfaction questionnaire.

Results: Tooth loss was identified as the primary problem in 5 participants (50%), and social media was the main channel for receiving information (25.73% of total responses). The animation creation process was systematically and successfully completed. The satisfaction evaluation revealed a highly positive reception; the media successfully raised awareness of the importance of oral health and motivated a desire to improve self-care behaviors.

Conclusion and Discussion: The animation innovation based on the 7-Color Ping-Pong concept is an effective and satisfactory health communication tool for the elderly. This innovation delivers complex health information in an engaging, accessible format for the elderly. It demonstrates potential for enhancing health literacy and promoting positive oral health behaviors among the elderly.
