Factors Influencing Clinical Risk Management of Professional Nurses at Sisaket Hospital

Abstract

          This retrospective descriptive study aimed to examine the relationship between general information, clinical risk factors of nurses, and clinical risk management practices of professional nurses at Sisaket Hospital. The sample comprised 89 clinical-risk nursing medical records from 2023 at Sisaket Hospital. The study used Wilson & Tingle's conceptual framework for risk management. Data was collected from Sisaket Hospital's risk management database records, including general information forms, risk factor records, and clinical risk management records of professional nurses. Data analysis: descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and chi-square tests were used.
          The study found that the period of risk identification was significantly associated with professional nurses' risk management in terms of risk identification methods (p-value= .000, χ2 = 12.837, df = 1). The organization's shared risk goal-setting had a significantly low positive correlation with professional nurses' clinical risk management in risk identification methods (p-value = .038, r = .221). The department was significantly associated with risk management (p-value = .024, χ2 = 23.57, df = 1). The time period of risk identification was significantly associated with professional nurses' risk management in terms of risk management practices (p-value = .034, χ2 = 6.777, df = 2). Clinical risk reporters receiving work assignments appropriate to their workload had a significantly low negative correlation with professional nurses' risk management in terms of risk management practices (p-value = .011, r = -.270).
For professional nurses' risk management, particularly in risk management practices, it is suggested to use methods to reduce losses and involve teams in risk resolution. Organizations should encourage setting shared risk goals, support current risk identification, and, in departments with high workloads, assign tasks appropriate to the workload of reporting nurses.
