The Evaluation of Nurse’s Competency Training Program To Promote Optimal Outcomes of Critical COVID 19 Patients At the COVID Critical Cohort of a Tertiary Hospital

Abstract
This cross-sectional observational study assessed the efficacy of a competency training program for professional nurses managing COVID-19 respiratory crises in the respiratory intensive care unit (ICU) during the pandemic at a regional hospital. The study involved 20 registered nurses working in the respiratory ICU from April to August 2023. Data collection tools included structured interviews, data extraction forms, and a researcher-developed nursing competency assessment form, which demonstrated a reliability coefficient of 0.85. Descriptive statistics and content analysis were utilized to evaluate the training outcomes. The findings revealed that nurses rapidly enhanced their competencies by integrating empirical knowledge, team collaboration, and learning within a constrained timeframe. Key competencies included managing High Flow Nasal Cannula and ventilator patients, assisting with rapid sequence intubation, implementing infection control measures, and providing psychological support to patients and families, as well as end-of-life care. These improvements contributed to safer work environments and better clinical outcomes.
The study concluded that the training program effectively enabled nurses to systematically analyze and address clinical challenges using the nursing process. The program's success highlights its potential utility for healthcare administrators in policymaking to mitigate the impact of future outbreaks.
