The Effect of Development on Intellectual Disabilities People for Working in the Workplace: A Case Study in Rajanukul Institute

Abstract

Objective To study outcome of the development of basic working skills for intellectual disabilities people program to work and to study the attitudes for work of intellectual disabilities people.

Materials and Methods This study is mixed methodology research with one group pretest and posttest design. Both quantities and quality study, the samples were 15 intellectual disabilities people, 15 employers or co-worker and 15 caregivers. The research instruments are the assessment of social adaptation skill and basic needed skills for work and the questionnaires for all of the subjects about attitudes for person with intellectual disabilities and working. And In-dept interview with focused group is the tools in the part of quantities study. Percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation and non-parametric statistic (Friedman Test and Post HOC. Test) were used in data analysis.

Results The results of this study show that the posttest mean score of intellectual disabilities people working skills after training in program was significantly upper than the pretest score. For the attitudes to work, intellectual disabilities people and employer agree with the study in moderate level. But the care givers are most agree.

Conclusion The basic working skills for intellectual disabilities people program to work is able to develop a processing and formatting about social adaptation skill and basic needed skills for work that lead to the knowledge and curriculum for social adaptation skill and basic needed skills for work. The study result in dissemination and transferring knowledge to personnel working in both the public and private sectors. To create job opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.
