Development of a Drug and Health Consumer Protection Competency Assessment Tool for Pharmacists

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to 1) Develop pharmaceutical and health consumer protection performance assessment tools, 2) Examine the effectiveness of pharmaceutical and health consumer protection performance assessment tools, and 3) Evaluate pharmaceutical and health consumer protection performance of pharmacists. The study was conducted in population and therefore no sampling was conducted, with a total of 67 pharmacists. We sent the questionnaire to the pharmacist by mail, and at the end of the required period, the questionnaire was returned. 10 pharmacists did not return the questionnaire, thus eliminating the number of this sample according to the exclusion criteria. Therefore, there were 57 pharmacists sampled in this research. Analyzing the data with descriptive statistics include percentages, averages and inferential statistics to analyze the difference between the two groups of averages or t-tests. The results showed that 1) The drug and health consumer protection competency assessment tool consists of 4 competencies: Legal and law enforcement consisting of 12 questions, Risk management system Epidemiology and Drug safety consisting of 25 questions, Public health pharmacy for consumer protection consists of 10 questions and Drug management policy Health products and Healthcare systems consisting of 9 questions. 2) The effectiveness of performance assessment tools includes Legal and law enforcement, Risk management systems Epidemiology and Drug safety, Public health pharmacy for consumer protection have content validity (IOC) ranges from 0.6-1.0 and in the Drug management policy  Health products and Healthcare systems  has a content validity value (IOC) of 1.0. The reliability check showed that Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.990. 3) Evaluation of drug and pharmacist health consumer protection competencies. It was found that the average performance of pharmacists was moderate.  Results compare the performance of pharmacists who perform consumer protection work and do not perform consumer protection work. It was found that pharmacists who perform consumer protection work. The average performance is statistically significantly different from pharmacists who do not perform consumer protection work. (p < 0.05) by pharmacists performing consumer protection work have a higher level of performance than pharmacists who do not perform consumer protection work
